- Beach Worshipping: Combined, Qualicum Beach and
Qualicum Bay produce many kilometers of beachfront along the Oceanside Route
with sun drenched sand, carved driftwood, abundant marine life, and some
spectacular ocean front scenery. In many areas the coastal beachfront has a
paved walkway, unique pubs and restaurants, ice cream parlors and benches so
to sit back and take it all in. Low tide brings tide pools with marine life
- Ocean and River Fishing: Chinook, Chum, and
Pink Salmon roam these coastal ocean waters mixed in among the Cod, Red
Snapper, Halibut and seaweed. Rod and reel your way to some fresh water
fishing' at Little Qualicum Falls for some Trout or one of the local lakes for
the Char. Hook, line and sinker. It is as easy as that.
- Denman and Hornby Island: The eclectic Islands
sit off the coastline of Vancouver Island just north on Hwy #19A near Deep
Bay. A short scenic ferry trip across the straight and soon you will be among
the marine wildlife, relaxed atmosphere, and unique people of the local
- Ocean and Fresh Water Kayaking: Cameron Lake or
Spider Lake for the fresh water kayaking experience or zip in and around the
coastline while riding the Pacific Ocean with the soaring eagles and splashing
seals enjoying the marine landscape and environment.
- Hiking and Walking: Rosewall Park, Mount
Arrowsmith Park, Little Qualicum Falls Park and more. Bring a day backpack and
set your mind out on exploring the trails and walkways of the many lush rain
forested parks in the area. Trails range from easy and short distances to
extreme and long distances.
- Downtown Shops: With over 40 shops set
in a Victorian atmosphere beaming with history and architectural prowess.
Boutiques with unique gifts, outdoor cafes, bistros on the corners,
shops marketing the unique gifts of the area and the artisan feel in the air.
- Scuba Diving: Recognized as #1 'Best Value Dive
Destination' by Rodale's Scuba Diving. Even Jacques Cousteau stated these
waters were 2nd best in the world for cold water dives. The marine life around
here is pretty amazing with visibility up to 100 ft. Preferred dive areas
located off of Denman and Hornby Islands, Nanoose Bay and Madrona Point in
- Coombs Market: An eclectic assortment of trendy
stores with charismatic-laced store fronts. One with a roof top where goats
live and graze on. The assortment of stores and the quality of goods is
something of a flash back to the 1960's, with lots of vibrant colored
clothing, hand made jewellery, and unique "I would never think of that" type
gifts. Also a Fair offering children rides is on location.
- Golf: There are 5 golf courses in the
Parksville - Qualicum Beach area. Some have received international recognition
while all continue to give the local residents a challenge. A definite must...
a full bag a golf balls to play on these fairways, over the sand traps, and
past the water hazards.
- Caving: Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park has
self guided tours for the basic caving experience in the main and lower main
caves. But to see the true wonders of the under world , propelling, and rock
climbing the more complex caves you will need an experience guide and a good
flash on your camera.
